A rainy weekend for yard work.

Every other Saturday Nick has the fire academy, this weekend he happened to have it off so we planned on getting lots of yard work done. Of course the weather decided to make it a bit more difficult by raining all day Saturday, but we didn't let a little rain stop us.

This is where we left off two weeks ago, I can't tell you how frustrating it is to only work on the yard every two weeks. Anyways, moving on. When we last left off we had started digging more trenches for sprinklers.

This week in spite of all the rain we got a lot accomplished. Sprinklers? check. Concrete forms? check. Railroad ties? check. Top soil? check. Today the yard is looking a whole lot better.

The wood leading up to the front porch is just there so we don't have to constantly walk through the dirt, anything to keep it out of the house. Although it doesn't really help when the children play in the dirt all day long. We decided to put in a step that wrapped around the existing porch.

On the side of the house we are putting in a large slab of concrete up to the kitchen door. Yes it is just about the same as it was before, but when Nick pulled off the step the whole thing came apart. Once the concrete is poured we will add more dirt so the first step will not be so tall.

Progress people. progress.

organization.

This house we find ourselves in is quite small. There is little to no closet space and trying to stay organized has been very difficult. Our washer and dryer are located in a closet in the kitchen with one small shelf above for all things laundry and cleaning. Our linen closet is a shared space with the hot water heater and each room has an excruciatingly small closet. Over the past six months since moving in I have desperately wanted to get organized, but I just can't quite get it together. I decided to take to the internet for a bit of organizational inspiration.

First up is a beautiful closet space, okay I use the term closet loosely, it is more of a dressing room. I have absolutely no space in my house for such an amazing shoe display, nor that many gorgeous shoes. But hey, a girl can dream right?

In all seriousness though my house needs to be organized desperately. The most annoying to me at the moment is the kitchen. We don't have a pantry so all the food is stacked on top of the fridge and it is such an eye sore. My hopes are to take some tips from spaces such as this...

I am making it my goal this week to get my "pantry" organized using fun and functional containers. What about you, any spaces in your home that could use a good dose of organization? I challenge you to conquer one of them this week and we will share them all next Thursday right here at onethirtytwo. Good luck!

chicken pasta salad.

If your looking for an easy and delicious salad that is perfect for the warm days to come, then look no further. My family might think I am obsessed with this salad seeing as I make it for just about every party I throw, but it is just so simple and good that I can't not make it.
Try it you won't be disappointed.

Chicken Pasta Salad

- bow tie pasta                                                     - red onion
- grilled chicken                                                  - olives
- lettuce                                                                  - parmesan cheese
- cherry tomatoes                                              - Caesar dressing, I love Newmans Own Caesar.

Boil your pasta according to the package. Drain and rinse noodles. Cut up grilled chicken into small chunks. Combine pasta and chicken.

Add lettuce, tomatoes, onions and olives. toss.

Pour dressing over salad. toss again. garnish with parmesan cheese. serve. enjoy.

easter inspiration.

It's Friday, a day I look forward to all week. It means I get to see my husband before 11pm, which is always nice. This weekend is also Easter so I thought I would put together a bit of Easter inspiration.

First up, an all-natural way to dye Easter eggs at Better Homes and Gardens using such things as blueberries, red cabbage, beets and carrots. It may take a bit more work, but look how pretty the colors are. love it.

I love finding interesting ways to decorate eggs. How fabulous are these white on white eggs from Pickles, loving the minimalist look.

We didn't dye any eggs last year, for the life of me I can't remember why, but we did the year before. Well actually we forgot to buy any dye so we resorted to coloring eggs with markers. Hayden had a ball though. This year should be interesting, I doubt we will get to try out any fancy egg dyeing.

It wouldn't be Easter without a fabulous meal and no meal is complete without a refreshing drink. This raspberry lemonade from My Baking Addiction looks amazing. I love the skewered raspberries on top.

Hayden and Archie are very excited for the Easter bunny to leave them a basket. I think it's going to be a great weekend. I doubt we will get any yard work done, but it should still be a fun weekend relaxing with family.

a new workout.

So since running the marathon back in October I have pretty much stopped working out. I will go running every once in a while, but I have basically been a big fat exercise slacker. I decided I needed a new workout, something to get me going again and I think I have found it. While on Pinterest the other day I came across BODYROCK.tv and a 30 day challenge they proposed.

So Sunday April 1st I got my lazy butt up and got started on my fit test. It consisted of doing 7 exercises for 50 seconds each with a 10 second break in between. The following are my fitness test results...

- squat jumps: 27
- push ups: 14
- burpees: 6
- high knees: 132
- switch lunges: 12
- tuck jumps: 10
- straight abs: 7

I'm not sure how my results compare to anyone else, but I am just hoping that by the end of the 30 days they will have improved. Yesterday I did the first workout, I had to alter a few things to my skill level, but I loved it. It was only 12 minutes long, but pretty intense and I have been sore for the past few days. I didn't wake up in time to do my work out this morning so I will have to get it in tonight. I am excited to stick to the 30 day challenge and to get into shape.

The never ending project.

Sometimes when you start a big project you get excited and instead of really thinking it through and planning it out you just jump into it. Then halfway through you take a step back and realize you should have done something different and then you are forced to back track a bit. *sigh*  Nick had the entire weekend off to work on the yard and yet we are more behind today then we were on Friday. lame. Especially considering he has the Fire Academy all day next Saturday, looks like it will be another 2 weeks before anymore progress is made.

So here is the thing. Sprinklers are a pain. We thought we could do one thing and then realized it wouldn't be very smart after talking to a landscaper friend. So we started digging trenches for sprinkler pipe yet again on Sunday.

I dug this trench all by myself. My arms and back are feeling it today.
If only we would have really thought the sprinklers out or called the friend from the beginning. Hindsight right? We did get a delivery of road base for the driveway and Nick picked up a bundle of railroad ties from Lowe's so the weekend wasn't a total bust.

On a positive note, Rick should be coming this week to pour concrete for us. Woot! The dirt is driving me crazy.
